Five-year jail term for superstar Sanjay Dutt!

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's conviction in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and sentenced him to five years imprisonment. Sanjay Dutt, who has already served 18 months of his term in prison, has four weeks to surrender. 

The Supreme Court today also dismissed 1993 Mumbai blasts mastermind Yakub Memon's appeal against his death sentence even as it reduced the punishment of 10 other accused to life imprisonment from death sentence considering the fact that they have spent 20 years in jail. It also upheld life sentences awarded to 17 others.

Filmmaker Karan Malhotra, who is gearing up for his second movie "Shuddhi", tells the leading lady for the film is not yet finalized. However, there was news that Kareena Kapoor has been roped in for the project opposite Hrithik Roshan. 

"The leading lady of the movie is not yet finalized. So far it is only Hrithik Roshan who has been finalized. I can't talk much about whether Kareena is in the film as long as Karan (Johar) doesn't make an official announcement," told Karan Malhotra.

Miss India Pooja Chopra is happy with Commando!

Miss India 2009 Pooja Chopra makes her big screen debut with action-packed "Commando" and tells she couldn't have asked for a better launch pad. 

"I can't ask for a better launch. Right now it comes across as an action movie - action, no doubt, is the best that I have ever seen in Indian cinema - but when you see the movie, you will realise that as a debutant I have nothing to complain," the 27-year-old told.

Sridevi’s German connection for English Vinglish!

Gauri Shinde's "English Vinglish" is a movie that has opened linguistic doors in its scriptural context by showing the protagonist overcoming her inhibitions regarding the English language. But the movie seems to be crossing the language barrier beyond the screenplay -- the Sridevi-starrer is being dubbed into German and will be released in the country next month. 

"We will release 'English Vinglish' in a dubbed German version in the country with 20 prints in May 2013," told a source from Eros International, which produced the movie.

National Film Awards winners announced!

Actor Irrfan Khan has won the best actor for his act as athlete-turned-dacoit in Paan Singh Tomar at the 60th National Film Awards announced today. Film Paan Singh Tomar, which has been produced by UTV Software communications Ltd. and directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, also won the best Hindi feature film. 

In non-feature movie category, the award for the best film has been conferred to Shepherds of Paradise (Gojri and Urdu) produced and directed by Raja Shabir Khan.

SRK and Salman battle on in Japan also!

It was meant to be an enormous marketing coup with Salman Khan opening up the hitherto dormant Japanese market for Bollywood with a nationwide release of Yash Raj Film's "Ek Tha Tiger". 

Director Kabir Khan flew eagerly into a four-city tour of Japan last week at the invitation of the Japanese distributors Nikkatsu Corporation and the release date was fixed for April 20 in Japan. 

But now, in what appears to be a hasty and clever business maneuver, Eros International has announced the Japanese release of their 2007 Shah Rukh Khan smash hit Om Shanti Om.

Gul Panag’s unnerving moments for walking the ramp!

Former Miss India and Bollywood actress Gul Panag, who Thursday walked for designer Urvashi Kaur at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) tells that walking the ramp is something that she has never wanted to do. 

The five-day fashion extravaganza started here Wednesday. 

"It was bit of unnerving to walk with big supermodels but thanks to music that helped me in soothing my nerves. I feel, modelling requires lot of things and for me, it was little difficult as I never walked the ramp during my Miss India days," Gul, dressed in maroon gown, said.

Bollywood actress Kajol told that she will not mind doing an item number if its requirement is justified in the movie. 

"I love watching item numbers and any film that is entertaining. If the film demands it and if the item number is adding to the film, helping take the story forward I don't mind doing an item number," she told when asked if she will be happy with it.

1,500 Bhopal residents on Jha’s 'Satyagraha'!

Forthcoming movie "Satyagraha" will see as many as 1,500 Bhopal residents in the movie and director Prakash Jha tells a two-month special workshop was held to train them. 

"Yes, we held workshops for the locals for about two months. These acting workshops were necessary. I'm really happy with how they have been contributing to my 'Satyagraha'. It's fantastic to see their energy and enthusiasm for the film," told Jha, who previously shot "Raajneeti" and "Aarakshan" in the city.

Sonam Kapoor feels inherent connection with Delhi City!

Though she was brought up in Mumbai, Sonam Kapoor loves to play a Delhi girl on celluloid and adds that she feels like one these days. 

"I love Delhi - the people, space in this city. I think there is so much character in the city. Of course, every city has its negatives and positives. I love playing a Delhi girl because I feel inherently I am one," Sonam said. 

"Delhi 6" saw her portraying a middle-class girl from old Delhi area, while in "Aisha", she was seen as an uptown fashionista from high society of the capital.

Ali Zafar wants an own shack in Goa!

Pakistani actor-singer Ali Zafar is so much in love with sun, sand and the beaches of Goa that he is apparently planning to own a shack there. 

A known name in the Hindi film industry after "Tere Bin Laden" and "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan", the actor is presently gearing up for his next release, David Dhawan's comic caper "Chashme Baddoor", a remake of Sai Paranjpye-directed 1981 movie of the same name. 

He is said to have zeroed in on a shack in Goa, where he shot for "Chashme Baddoor". 

"It was the shooting of 'Chashme Baddoor', which took Ali to Goa and he fell in love with the place and their culture. Ali had never been to Goa and the amount of time he spent over there was like a mini-vacation for him as well as the entire cast, though it is too early to disclose any details, as talks are still on (for the shack)," told a source.

Why is Bipasha spending sleepless nights?

Bipasha Basu accepts that the promotional tours of her forthcoming movie "Aatma" are giving her sleepless nights as she is being forced to face her fears and visit haunted places. 

"I really have to admit it honestly that I am having totally sleepless nights. But now during the promotions (of 'Aatma') so much is being discussed, like face your fears, go to the haunted places, do this and that. So definitely I am scared a lot. So I am not able to sleep these days," the 34-year-old told in an interview. 

While much is being said about Bipasha doing a slew of horror films like "Raaz" and "Raaz 3", Bipasha herself admits that even she was in no mood to do a supernatural movie now.

Actor Ram Kapoor took everybody by surprise at the premiere of "Mere Dad Ki Maruti" by dancing on Harlem Shake, a popular dance form. 

Harlem Shake originated in Harlem, a neighbourhood within the northern section of the New York City borough of Manhattan, in the 1980s. It is also a song by electronic musician Baauer. People break into an unrehearsed jig as part of the trend.

Dinner with Hollywood's maverick filmmaker Steven Spielberg cost Amitabh Bachchan the logo of his Mercedes -- and he wants it back! 

"Thank you media for mobbing my car after dinner for Steven Spielberg. Can I have my Mercedes logo back please, you broke it... twice over," Big B wrote on Twitter. 

The 70-year-old dined with Spielberg at a party organized by Indian business tycoon Anil Ambani and his wife Tina in the filmmaker's honour Tuesday night.

Whistling Woods and DY Patil join hands for film school!

Whistling Woods International and DY Patil educational group have come together for an institute of film, media and communication, in Pune. 

The DY Patil-Whistling Woods International Film and Media School will be set up in the DY Patil Knowledge City in Pune. 

The institute, which will commence operations from August 2013, will offer students from across the country integrated undergraduate courses in filmmaking, animation, media and communication, and a MBA in Media and Entertainment.

Songs in movies are part of storytelling, says Composer Krsna!

Krsna, known for his opus in "Tanu Weds Manu" and upcoming film "Jolly LLB", feels that songs in movies are part of storytelling. 

"I have a design and communication background and I understand that even songs in a film are a part of the storytelling. They breathe life into a movie," Krsna said. 

"As a composer, I do it from scratch and see what a director needs, how characters are evolving and then make a collection of four-five songs... I get inside the whole story, understand the scenes and then give the music," he further added.

Fashion designer Nikasha Tawadey displayed a collection titled 'Raat Ki Rani' at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) here. 

Really, the collection surprised the fashionistas as it was a perfect blend of color, texture and designs. The collection consisted of fitted silhouettes like multi-colored jumpsuits, mini-kurtas, choli-tanks, dhotis, shararas, saris and waistcoats. It represented a desi woman, who is bold, beautiful and familiar with her culture.

Karan Johar gives clue for 'Bombay Talkies 2'!

Filmmaker Karan Johar who has teamed up with three directors - Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap - for his forthcoming movie "Bombay Talkies" tells there must be a sequel, "Bombay Talkies 2". 

He told that he is interested in meeting the three directors after a few years to make the sequel. 

"There should be a sequel to this movie. I want all the four of us to come back after a few years," he told, during a panel discussion "100 years of cinema and beyond" held here at the second day of FICCI Frames 2013. 

Talking about the four stories in the movie, Karan told that each of them shows the director's passion to cinema.

After giving a non-stop hits, Salman Khan has been tagged as one of the most money-spinning names in bollywood and filmmaker Karan Johar too feels that the superstar's power goes beyond his movies. 

"Salman's star power goes beyond his movies. People go to see a film just because it has Salman Khan. He is more than just a superstar," told Karan, who had roped in Salman for his directorial debut "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai". 

"My debut film had him. I have offered many films to him... It would be a dream for anyone to have him work for them. He is a big ticket," further added the filmmaker who is equally fond of Shah Rukh Khan.
